The Minority in Parliament has bemoaned government’s decision to reduce allocation to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) by 21%.<\/p>\n
According to the Minority, the reduction would affect project delivery under the GETFund.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the floor of the Parliament before approval of the GETfund Formula for the allocation of its GHc790 million, Deputy Minority Leader, James Avedzi Klutse, said slashing the amount\u00a0is bad for the growth of the education sector.<\/p>\n

I think that Mr. Speaker, this is going to affect the education sector in terms of provision of infrastructure for all the educational sectors; that is basic, secondary and tertiary. Mr. Speaker, we want to urge the Minister of Finance to ensure that once the amount allocated to the sector is less than what is supposed to be; we should not come here next time and be talking about non-release of the fund to the GETfund. We want the Minster to release the fund on time to the GETfund administrator in order for the Ministry and the GETfund to provide the schools with all the resources needed,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Unpaid GETFund contractors picket at Finance Ministry <\/strong><\/p>\n Contractors working on GETFund projects picketed<\/strong><\/a><\/span> at the Finance Ministry in January 2017, to demand monies owed them by the government.<\/p>\n The contractors say government owes them over GHc 300 million spanning a period of six months.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, managers of the GETFund blamed the Ministry of Finance for its inability to pay the contractors.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin Akweiteh Allotey\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
