It was an embarrassment. In fact, I was ridiculed. Why would any ambassador give GHc 10,000? What is GHc 10,000 to a whole institution of State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana on Tuesday presented this GHc 10,000 donation and some office equipment to the Attorney General\u2019s office, to support the organisation of a stakeholders\u2019 consultative workshop, on the Office of the Special Prosecutor Bill, 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Influence on <\/strong><strong>galamsey<\/strong><strong>\u00a0fight<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The donation was however met with some concerns from the public, and some civil society groups which highlighted the delicate dynamic between the two nations given the widespread involvement of Chinese nationals in the devastating illegal mining.<\/p>\n<p>This followed a <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/03\/chinese-societies-donate-gh%C2%A2-50000-to-ghana-police\/\">similar donation<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to the police service by the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, raising concerns and suspicions from the public.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Chinese-galamsey-arrest-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-305114\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Chinese-galamsey-arrest-2.jpg\" alt=\"chinese-galamsey-arrest-2\" width=\"601\" height=\"451\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Ghana-police-China-donation.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-307648\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Ghana-police-China-donation.jpg\" alt=\"ghana-police-china-donation\" width=\"600\" height=\"345\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alhaji Fuseini, a former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, has <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/03\/chinese-ambassador-tried-to-undermine-my-galamsey-fight-inusah-fuseini\/\">previously spoken<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of the pressure Chinese officials in Ghana put on him when he tried to fight against illegal mining in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>He revealed that the former Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, tried different methods to get him to ease up on the fight against illegal miners within the small-scale mining sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What happened to Ghana beyond aid?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aside from this,\u00a0Alhaji Fuseini said accepting such donations was at odds with President Nana Akufo-Addo\u2019s vision of a Ghana beyond aid.<\/p>\n<p>He said this donation basically meant the Chinese considered Ghana &#8220;as poor as church mice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nana Akufo-Addo has told us he is moving this country beyond aid, and then a Chinese Ambassador comes to give you GHc 10,000 \u2013 they should not have accepted it. What can GHc 10,000 do? It is even an insult to us as Ghanaians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow poor are we that we accept GHc 10,000, desktop computers and UPSs from China? It ridiculed and embarrassed me that an ambassador, in giving Ghana aid gives us GHc 10,000, and we are applauding and taking pictures and showing pictures on social media.
