The Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, has indicated that government plans to acquire the disputed Nkonya-Alavanyo land.<\/p>\n
He said the plan is to develop the land into a military training camp.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”IajzdMWHJE7MclFhNnzgmsobqBzF8zao”]Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, the Minister said he believes the move will help resolve the over a century old conflict between the two towns that has resulted in the loss of many lives.<\/p>\n
The house was reacting to the spate of deadly attacks witnessed in the area in recent times.<\/p>\n
Dominic Nitiwul told Parliament that, “We on our part the security we\u2019ll start training in that particular area, the structures have already been put there, to ensure that the security is permanently present there because we need land to train so if people have land and they give to us to train and they are disputing over it, we will go and use that place to train”<\/p>\n
In April 2017, the Volta Regional Minister, Archibald Letsa, hinted of government\u2019s plan to take over the land, adding that both factions; Nkonya and Alavanyo<\/strong><\/a><\/span> had agreed to the takeover.<\/p>\n
