{"id":325417,"date":"2017-06-05T13:30:40","date_gmt":"2017-06-05T13:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=325417"},"modified":"2017-06-05T13:30:40","modified_gmt":"2017-06-05T13:30:40","slug":"no-need-to-compensate-for-armyworm-losses-deputy-agric-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/06\/no-need-to-compensate-for-armyworm-losses-deputy-agric-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"No need to compensate for armyworm losses &#8211; Deputy Agric Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Government is not likely to provide any compensation for losses incurred by farmers as a result of army worm infestation.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, William Quaitoo, indications are that, farmers are not expected to be overwhelmingly\u00a0affected by the army worms.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;1Sm48uI7TzAVDd7VwnBcBeibmAPXYGi0&#8243;]&#8221;The loss or the reduction in yield because of the army worm invasion, will not be up to 10 percent,\u201d the Deputy Minister noted to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Quaitoo said most farmers saw the outbreak early and started spraying, unlike last year when they lost all their crops.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year [2017], as soon as they [army worms] started coming\u2026 they sprayed before even before reporting to us, so there is no fear, unlike last year where they didn\u2019t know how to combat it. This year, I will say that the army worm invasion is under control. We are not going to be affected much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is not like the avian influenza that came about two years ago, where poultry farmers lost almost all their birds and eggs so in that case, they were to be compensated.
