Waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Limited in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Friday cleaned up the site where the June 3 disaster occurred at the Goil filling station near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra.<\/p>\n

They also cleared filth at the Nkrumah Interchange and surrounding environs\u00a0ahead of the 2nd<\/sup> anniversary commemoration of the disaster.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi News<\/strong> after the clean-up exercise, Public Relations Officer for Zoomlion, Robert Coleman explained that cleaning the area was part of efforts by Zoomlion in ensuring that Ghanaians \u00a0adopt a positive attitude towards cleaning their environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is symbolic, we wanted the people to know that it is significant for them to keep a clean environment so we asked some trucks and pickups to go round and do some public education. And we decided to complement it by organizing today’s clean-up exercise and a lot of people came. The AMA came, Zoomlion workers were here and it has been phenomenal. What we are saying is that people must recognize that unhygienic behaviours are not helping the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

About 150 lives were lost on June 3, 2015 at the Goil filling station near the Interchange amidst a heavy rain and fire.<\/p>\n

A lot more others also sustained various degrees of injuries.<\/p>\n

A number of activities have been lined up to mark the 2nd<\/sup> anniversary of the June 3 twin disaster.<\/p>\n

Later in the evening on Friday, a church and vigil service will be held at Adabraka in Accra.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, June 3, at 09:00 hours a remembrance church service would be held at the Calvary Baptist Church, Adabraka and it would be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the disaster site.<\/p>\n
