{"id":323861,"date":"2017-05-31T06:01:17","date_gmt":"2017-05-31T06:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=323861"},"modified":"2017-05-31T06:01:17","modified_gmt":"2017-05-31T06:01:17","slug":"exclusion-of-local-govt-minister-from-cabinet-worrying-muntaka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/exclusion-of-local-govt-minister-from-cabinet-worrying-muntaka\/","title":{"rendered":"Exclusion of Local Gov&#8217;t minister from Cabinet worrying &#8211; Muntaka"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has expressed reservations about President Nana Akufo-Addo\u2019s decision to exclude the Local Government and Rural Development Minister, and the Senior Minister from his Cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>Alhaji Muntaka said their exemption was indicative of the fact that these portfolios were not considered priority areas by the President.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;R06hYUhwKvgJmmSmDUbClI7JHDx0djEd&#8221;]\u201cIf they were, I don\u2019t see why they would not be on the cabinet list,\u201d the Asawase MP noted in a <strong>Citi News<\/strong> interview.<\/p>\n<p>The President also excluded the Works and Housing, Communications, and Parliamentary Affairs Ministers from his Cabinet, while the Tourism, Special Development Initiatives and Regional Re-organisation, featured in the list of nineteen persons announced on the Floor of Parliament on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Alhaji Muntaka expressed particular concern about\u00a0the absence of the Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama, given the Akufo-Addo administration\u2019s pledge to oversee the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_284418\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-284418\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Alima-Mahama-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-284418\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Alima-Mahama-1.jpg\" alt=\"Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama with President Akufo-Addo\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-284418\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama with President Akufo-Addo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cYou look at the issue of local development and the way it cuts across, and they don\u2019t find representation in the Cabinet. They [Senior and Local Government Ministers] may be attending as participants, but it is surprising that for the first time, you don\u2019t have the Local Government minister and the Senior Minister.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know others who are not on it,but you could gloss over it; but to have two ministers of state on it yet you don\u2019t have the senior minister and the local government ministers were a bit surprising,\u201d the MP added.<\/p>\n<p>On another level, Alhaji Muntaka also noted that, being a member of Cabinet, or not, was the difference between some key perks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt comes with salary, it comes with other conditions of service, it comes with participating at cabinet sub-meetings. It comes with a lot of influence. If you know the emolument structure and a number of things, you will know that for Cabinet ministers and non-Cabinet ministers, the weight allotted to them is different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cabinet is constituted in conformity with Article 76 (1) of the 1992 constitution.
