Mahama\u2019s death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his regret over the death of Captain <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/30\/soldier-mistakenly-lynched-and-burnt-at-diaso\/\"><strong>Maxwell Adam Mahama<\/strong><\/a><\/span> who was lynched and burnt in the Central Region by some angry youth on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>John Mahama also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased, who are heartbroken over the unfortunate development.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;llVMBJAkTxILsIYKckyHdl9Rn2Df6t03&#8243;]Capt. <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/30\/diaso-lynching-capt-mahama-was-deployed-to-fight-galamsey-uncle\/\"><strong>Maxwell Mahama<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, an officer of the 5 Infantry Battalion, was said to have been on his daily jogging routine on Monday when the unfortunate incident occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Reports say he had his gun on him while jogging, and some residents who saw him with the gun raised alarm, attracting some of the youth in the community who attacked and killed him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News<\/strong> gathered that some armed robbers\u00a0had attacked residents the day before, and the angry youth were on the lookout for the criminals, hence they mistook Captain Maxwell Mahama, who was dressed in civilian clothes as one of the perpetrators,\u00a0having spotted a gun on him.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequent reports suggest that the murder was linked to the soldier\u2019s mission in the area to fight illegal small-scale mining.<\/p>\n<p>But President John Mahama in a Twitter comment\u00a0commiserated with the wife and children of the deceased.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0tweeted, \u201cMy heart goes out to my brother, Capt. Chubby Adam Mahama (Rtd.) on the murder of his son, Capt. Maxwell Mahama. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RestinPeaceMaxwell?src=hash\" data-query-source=\"hashtag_click\">#RestinPeaceMaxwell<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd my condolences to the wife of Capt. Maxwell Mahama, his young children &amp; to his mother on the loss of her only son. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RestinPeaceMaxwell?src=hash\" data-query-source=\"hashtag_click\">#RestinPeaceMaxwell<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-323689\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Mahama-tribute.jpg\" alt=\"mahama-tribute\" width=\"588\" height=\"215\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces has said it is collaborating with the various security agencies to unravel the circumstances under which the officer was murdered.<\/p>\n<p>It has also called for calm among military personnel who may be incensed and wish to retaliate.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some soldiers have reportedly stormed the town, where they have held a bout<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/30\/diaso-lynching-capt-mahama-was-deployed-to-fight-galamsey-uncle\/\"> 80 men hostage<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. According to the DCE for the area, the soldiers have beaten some of the men.
