It’s something we did not expect. But no matter how prepared one is, accidents do occur. So when we heard of the tragic incident, as a socially responsible association, we decided to help in our small way. This is what we’ve got to be distributed among the hospitals caring for the injured.”

The hospitals are the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the GPHA Hospital, the Takoradi Government Hospital, the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. The New Takoradi Health Center is also treating some of the victims.

Mr. Kumi assured of the association’s commitment at ensuring that member LPG distributors across the country adheres to the strict regulatory safety standards.

Receiving the donation, Dr. Kweku Afriyie assured the donors of ensuring that “not a pesewa will be diverted. We will ensure that the monies go to support the victims.”

Dr. Afriyie also reiterated government’s position to ensure that the company whose “negligence” led to the explosion foots the bills of all the victims. “So we have received this, we will make sure it goes to the hospitals for their intended use, but will also ensure that the company bears the cost of treatment for the victims. That we will ensure the company does.”

Meanwhile an interim report on the explosion by the 11 member committee chaired by the deputy western regional minister Madam Gifty Kusi has been submitted to the Regional minister whilst a complete report is deemed in a months’ time.
