{"id":321689,"date":"2017-05-23T06:25:33","date_gmt":"2017-05-23T06:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=321689"},"modified":"2017-05-23T06:25:33","modified_gmt":"2017-05-23T06:25:33","slug":"alavanyo-murder-residents-must-provide-information-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/alavanyo-murder-residents-must-provide-information-police\/","title":{"rendered":"Alavanyo murder: Residents must provide information &#8211; Police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Volta Regional Police Command says the unwillingness of the people of Nkonya and Alavanyo to volunteer information is hindering their efforts in arresting culprits involved in disturbances there.<\/p>\n<p>The latest crime recorded in the area was the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/20\/woman-62-gunned-down-in-alavanyo\/\">murder of a 62-year-old<\/a><\/strong><\/span> woman last Friday, bringing the death toll to four in just about a month.<\/p>\n<p>Both factions have called on the police service to intensify its investigative role to arrest culprits involved. But the Volta Regional crime officer, Superintendent Wonder Dogbevia has said police investigations have been frustrated by the attitude of residents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The police have not relaxed but looking at the vegetation of the area\u2026 anybody can hide in the bush to commit any crime,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are doing our best but it all depends on the information we receive from the community. For the community, they know these perpetrators and it is their duty to come out with them so that we arrest them and deal with them according to the law,\u201d Supt Dogbevia added.<\/p>\n<p>Persons close to the situation have attributed the murder on the protracted Nkonya-Alavanyo dispute.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased, Madam Elizabeth\u00a0Anku\u00a0is reported to have come out of her home to pick mangoes when\u00a0she was killed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Nkonya-Alavanyo-investgations.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-313834\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Nkonya-Alavanyo-investgations.jpg\" alt=\"nkonya-alavanyo-investgations\" width=\"640\" height=\"418\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two persons from Nkonya were reported dead in April 2017 when some unidentified persons opened fire on them on their way from their farm between Nkonya and Alavanyo.<\/p>\n<p>The dead were among five farmers from Nkonya-Ahinkro\u00a0who were returning from their farm.<\/p>\n<p>The three others managed to escape although one of them was left injured.<\/p>\n<p>A 15-year-old boy was <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/11\/15-year-old-shot-dead-at-alavanyo\/\">also killed<\/a><\/strong><\/span> at Alavanyo after\u00a0some unidentified men who invaded the community.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior has reviewed the curfew placed on the Nkonya and Alavanyo township.<\/p>\n<p>The curfew hours are now between\u00a08 pm\u00a0to 5.30am.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Farida Shaibu\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Volta Regional Police Command says the unwillingness of the people of Nkonya and Alavanyo to volunteer information is hindering their efforts in arresting culprits involved in disturbances there.
