{"id":321523,"date":"2017-05-22T16:59:45","date_gmt":"2017-05-22T16:59:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=321523"},"modified":"2017-05-22T16:59:45","modified_gmt":"2017-05-22T16:59:45","slug":"bill-to-review-service-years-in-army-to-be-laid-before-parliament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/bill-to-review-service-years-in-army-to-be-laid-before-parliament\/","title":{"rendered":"Bill to review service years in Army to be laid before Parliament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The government is set to introduce a Bill in Parliament that will alter the number of years personnel can serve in the Ghana Armed Forces.<\/p>\n<p>This is in line with the New Patriotic Party&#8217;s (NPP) campaign promise to increase the number of service years for army personnel from 25 years to 30 years<\/p>\n<p>Addressing soldiers at Burma Camp in Accra, the Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul said the move is meant to create an avenue for the country to benefit more from the experience of soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Minister, this is &#8220;so that every person has the opportunity to serve for 30 years\u2026 and by June or July, that law will go to Parliament and that will be the norm for the foreseeable future. It will run down to the officers as well but for now, this is purely targeted at the men [army personnel].\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/akufoaddo-wassa-1-620x330.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-321526\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/akufoaddo-wassa-1-620x330.jpg\" alt=\"akufoaddo-wassa-1-620x330\" width=\"620\" height=\"330\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In March 2017, President Nana Akufo-Addo had announced that legislation processes had <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/10\/nana-addo-announces-increase-in-peacekeeper-allowances\/\">already begun<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLegislative review of the armed forces amendment regulation of 1986, LI 1332, has begun.
