Minister of Interior, Kwesi Ahwoi has described demonstrations by various groups in Ghana as a waste on national resources.

He is of the opinion that monies meant for development are diverted for Police operations during such demonstrations.

Speaking at the meet the press series in Accra, the Minister lamented over the situation where government has to use scarce resource for the Police to provide protection for these demonstrators.

To the Minster, the more demonstrations are held, the less money will be available for other pressing needs of the society.

He admitted that the “demonstrations will continue because” some individuals “have made up their minds that they will live by demonstrations have already planned that virtually every week, there will be a demonstration.”

The sector Minister therefore urged the Police to be prepared for such situation and further cautioned demonstrators to be wary of their actions saying, “let them know that the more demonstrations they hold, the more budgetary resources we divert to these demonstrations.”

But the organizers of the ‘Occupy Flagstaff House’ demonstration say the Minister’s concerns are uncalled for.

The national organizer for the Concerned Ghanaians for Responsible Governance, Rodney Longdon told Citi News, “for just one second, he [Ahwoi] should pause and then consider the impact of the government’s incompetence.”

“He should look at the terrible, horrible, insensitive decisions from government and how it is affecting the ordinary Ghanaian and anybody else for that matter. Maybe, that is a better solution to our problems,” he stressed.

Mr. Longdon chastised the Minister for picking on individuals and groups who seek to demand accountability and good governance from the government.

He observed that it is “becoming a trend” among government officials who have “made it a point to rather focus on the unnecessary things that won’t add value to anyone’s life…it doesn’t help, it doesn’t help anybody.”
