{"id":318534,"date":"2017-05-12T08:36:03","date_gmt":"2017-05-12T08:36:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=318534"},"modified":"2017-05-12T08:36:03","modified_gmt":"2017-05-12T08:36:03","slug":"govt-pushes-for-regulation-to-check-collapsing-of-billboards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/govt-pushes-for-regulation-to-check-collapsing-of-billboards\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt pushes for regulation to check collapsing of billboards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Government has expressed worry about\u00a0the frequent collapse of outdoor advertising billboards anytime there is a rainstorm.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to<strong> Citi Business News<\/strong> after a visit by the Advertising Association of Ghana(AAG), a Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah, hinted of working with the Association to regulate the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are challenges in the industry especially when people indiscriminately decide to advertise anywhere, putting billboards here and there and refusing to test the structural integrity of those huge and large billboards that they put on the streets,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of them[billboards] come down at the little wind blast. I\u2019m sure that you have seen some on the streets where huge billboards come down because the structural integrity was not tested before it was put there,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73123\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73123\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Carlos-Ahenkoran.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-73123\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-73123 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Carlos-Ahenkoran.jpg\" alt=\"Carlos-Ahenkoran\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73123\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Describing the development as a threat to motorists, Mr. Ahenkorah stated that, government will work with the Association to improve standards in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>He added that, the regulation will also streamline activities in the industry, and instill discipline by prescribing standards for players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to make sure as a government that this does not persist because if we allow it to go on, it means that people will always get into the fray and just do what they want and go away,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Touching on the indiscriminate placement of billboards, Mr. Ahenkorah observed that, the industry can learn from advanced countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you walk around you see a lot of billboards scattered on our streets. In certain jurisdiction you don\u2019t see these things.
