{"id":318457,"date":"2017-05-12T06:00:38","date_gmt":"2017-05-12T06:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=318457"},"modified":"2017-05-12T06:00:38","modified_gmt":"2017-05-12T06:00:38","slug":"effia-nkwanta-regional-hospital-cries-for-burns-unit-after-gas-explosion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/effia-nkwanta-regional-hospital-cries-for-burns-unit-after-gas-explosion\/","title":{"rendered":"Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital cries for Burns Unit after Gas explosion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Management of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region say the establishment of a Burns Unit to handle medical situations arising from fire is long overdue.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s gas explosion in Takoradi left some victims critically injured beyond the strength of facilities at the regional hospital, as they had to be transported by road for over 3 hours from Takoradi to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the many oil related companies cited within the region\u2019s most populous city, the increased appetite for the establishment of fuel stations in and around the Twin City calls for proper health systems in the region.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-318459\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_20170510_122559-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"img_20170510_122559\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-318460\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG-20170511-WA0010-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"img-20170511-wa0010\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, the main referral center for the entire region with a population of over 2.3 million people has no Burns Unit to deal with fire related cases.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists after a visit to the victims of the gas explosion by the Western Regional Mnister, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie and his entourage, acting Medical Director of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Dr. Richard Anthony, bemoaned the absence of a burns Unit in view of a possible reoccurrence of similar explosions in the region.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-318461\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG-20170511-WA0011-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"img-20170511-wa0011\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-318462\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG-20170511-WA0014-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"img-20170511-wa0014\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He said \u201capart from this explosion that has occurred, there are a lot of factors within western region and we should expect that these explosions may occur from time to time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should get ready, we shouldn\u2019t wait till we have mass casualties before we start asking why shouldn\u2019t there be this, why wasn\u2019t there this, why wasn\u2019t there that? We are trying to do our best within the constraints to handle most of the casualties that come.
