A former Deputy Minister of Energy, K.T Hammond has attributed the increment in petroleum products to government’s incompetence and mismanagement of the economy.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr. Hammond said “Ghanaians are being asked to pay for government’s maladministration.”

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) on Sunday announced a 23 percent increment in Petrol, 22 percent in diesel and 23.75 percent in kerosene.

The Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) also announced a 15 percent increment in transport fares following the increase in petroleum products.

“Government accepts that consumers have to cough up more money because we have badly ruled the country and the economy to the extent that the Cedi is hopeless,”Mr. Hammond said

He recalled that crude oil which used to be sold for 147 dollars in 2008 had surged to 150,00 dollars in 2014.
