A New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth activist, Richard Nyamah, is threatening to have government accounts frozen by seeking a garnishee order if government fails to pay in full arrears owed the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

This comes amid reports that government has released over GHC 98 million to GETFund days after an Accra Fast Track High Court issued the order.

He told Citi News, he is considering suing government again because it has failed to pay the amount in full as directed by the court.

“I’m seriously considering it because what I know for sure is that from June 2013 to July 2014, the government hasn’t paid any further monies.”

Nyamah accused the government of hoarding the funds “and they are just refusing to pay it and so we would encourage the court to force them to do that.”

He stated that the money released is inadequate considering government owes GETFund close to GHC 600 million.

He expressed surprise that the government was able to settle part of its indebtedness to the GETFund after complaining of the unavailability of money.

“Where was this money until the ruling?’ he asked.

Government over the weekend released GHC 370 million to clear accumulated statutory payments.

The beneficiaries are District Assemblies Common Fund, Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL).
