{"id":316575,"date":"2017-05-05T09:00:43","date_gmt":"2017-05-05T09:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=316575"},"modified":"2017-05-05T09:00:43","modified_gmt":"2017-05-05T09:00:43","slug":"dan-botwe-engages-chiefs-over-creation-of-western-north-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/dan-botwe-engages-chiefs-over-creation-of-western-north-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Dan Botwe engages Chiefs over creation of Western North region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3104\">The Minister for Regional Reorganization and Development, Dan Botwe, together with the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi, have begun a two-day consultative process with members of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, over the creation of the proposed Western North Region.<\/p>\n<p>The engagement was to present the overview of the constitutional and other processes that must be followed before the said creation can take place.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3105\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3137\">The NPP ahead of the 2016 general elections promised to create a Western North Region out of the current\u00a0western region. It also promised to create other regions from the Brong Ahafo, Volta and the Northern Regions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3136\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMAGE-1-QUEENS.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-316605\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMAGE-1-QUEENS-1024x576.png\" alt=\"image-1-queens\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3131\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3130\">At the tw0-day workshop, Mr. Dan Botwe stated that, \u00a0the benefits to be derived from the reorganization are enormous, such that \u201cif the Common Fund allocated to each region is say Gh 1,000, the western region will receive 2 times the amount because of the reorganization. The region will now have 10 representatives at the national house of chiefs, regional hospital will be two, Fire service command, Regional Educational Office, Police Headquarters, and all other institutions will be double. This will facilitate the speed with which development is carried out in the region\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3129\">Mr. Botwe also added that, the population growth pattern for the western region in the 80s, has more than doubled, and when the split happens, it will fast track development in the region.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3155\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMAGE-2-CHIEFS.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-316607\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMAGE-2-CHIEFS-1024x576.png\" alt=\"image-2-chiefs\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3117\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3116\">Mr. Botwe said \u201cin 1960, the population of the Western Region was 626,000. In 1970, it came to 770,000. In 1984, it came to 1,157,807. In the year 2000, your population came to 1,924,577. Fast forward to 2010, the population stood at 2,376,031. Statistical Service projected that, the 2016 population for the region was 2,887,078. When you look at the figures, it shows that the region\u2019s population has more than doubled. So when the split happens, more resources from the central government will be sent to the western region\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is going to be new opportunities for the people. New constructional hands will be required in view of the infrastructural works that will be needed. There are many other opportunities that are there for our youth when this reorganization begins. In all, the development of the western region will be at a spate we all wish for\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Botwe implored on the 20 paramount chiefs in the region with their queen mothers to support a technical committee which will be holding the consultations on the proposed new regions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Dr.-Kwaku-Afriyie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-316608\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Dr.-Kwaku-Afriyie.jpg\" alt=\"dr-kwaku-afriyie\" width=\"640\" height=\"415\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Western Regional Minister, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie spoke passionately about the lack of a befitting development plan for the region that produces 60 percent of the country\u2019s resources.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3122\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1493920786548_3121\">He said \u201cthe western region has the largest coastline and contributes 37 percent of annual fish catch in the country. The region hosts 48 percent of the country\u2019s forest cover, the gold, the rubber, bauxite and recently the oil discovery demands accompanying development.
