The sacrifices, hardwork and ingenuity of the Ghanaian Worker should not be detailed,\u201d he said in a Facebook post.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-315319\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Mahama-May-Day.jpg\" alt=\"mahama-may-day\" width=\"650\" height=\"229\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ghanaian workers today [May 1] are joining millions of workers across the world to mark May Day, known in some countries as Workers\u2019 Day.<\/p>\n<p>The day is set aside to recognize and celebrate the contribution of Ghanaian workers to nation building.<\/p>\n<p>The national May Day celebration and parade is being held at the Independence Square in Accra under the theme,\u00a0\u201cGhana @ 60: Mobilising Ghana\u2019s Future through the creation of <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/01\/npp-causing-fear-panic-among-work-force-minority\/\"><strong>Decent Jobs<\/strong><\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>John Mahama under his presidency witnessed a number of labour agitations over the non-payment of salaries and poor working conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Although his government undertook key projects and actions in the interest of the country&#8217;s labour force, it bore the brunt of the unions especially over their failure to swiftly act to address some of their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The NDC government for instance in October 2015 increased the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/10\/03\/daily-minimum-wage-increased-to-gh%C2%A28\/\"><strong>minimum wage<\/strong><\/a><\/span> from\u00a0GH\u00a27 to GH\u00a28.<\/p>\n<p>Around the same time, it increased the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/10\/02\/public-sector-workers-salaries-up-by-10-2\/\"><strong>basic salary<\/strong><\/a><\/span> of public sector workers by 10% under the Single Spine Pay Policy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Jonas Nyabor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President, John Mahama has lauded Ghanaian workers for their dedication towards the country\u2019s development efforts.
