{"id":315037,"date":"2017-04-30T09:40:59","date_gmt":"2017-04-30T09:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=315037"},"modified":"2017-04-30T09:40:59","modified_gmt":"2017-04-30T09:40:59","slug":"akufo-addo-govt-committed-to-muslim-community-bawumia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/akufo-addo-govt-committed-to-muslim-community-bawumia\/","title":{"rendered":"Akufo-Addo gov&#8217;t committed to Muslim community &#8211; Bawumia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia says the Akufo-Addo administration will do all it can to uplift the living standard of Muslims in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bawumia made reference to the implementation of programmes as well as proposed policies that will see the transformation of Muslim communities.<\/p>\n<p>Among these programmes are the $50 million Zongo Development fund, and the campaign promise to make Arabic an examinable subject in Junior and Senior High Schools, as well as the creation of the Ministry of Zongos and Inner City Development, to attend to the developmental needs of Zongo communities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Bawumia-e1493486883490.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-315039\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Bawumia-e1493486883490.jpg\" alt=\"bawumia\" width=\"679\" height=\"489\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the Muslim Achievers Awards on Friday, Dr. Bawumia said, &#8220;The President has a very high regard for our community\u2026 Nana Akufo Addo is not a Muslim, but he fights for Muslims like he was one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We all know that for Nana Akufo-Addo, yes, he is not a Muslim, but he is so helpful to Muslims. When I talked to him about the Zongo Development Fund, he said, yes, let us do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we talked about bringing Arabic to make sure JSS and SHS exams are written in Arabic in this country, he said yes, let us do it and we are going to do it,\u201d the Vice President said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Initial Skepticism from Muslim community<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Muslim cleric Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, had\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/12\/15\/zongo-communities-awaiting-npps-promises-sheikh-aremeyaw\/\">expressed doubts<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0that Zongo communities around the country will see any significant transformation under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.<\/p>\n<p>Following\u00a0the NPP&#8217;s election victory, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, who also doubles as the Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, said things in the predominantly Muslim Zongo communities never changed in past times despite promises.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_292185\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-292185\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Boniface-Abubakar-Siddique.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-292185\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Boniface-Abubakar-Siddique.jpg\" alt=\"Boniface Abubakar Siddique\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-292185\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Boniface Abubakar Siddique<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But following the creation of the portfolio to deal with the Zongos and inner cities, the Sheikh said he had <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/01\/13\/i-now-believe-npp-can-transform-zongos-sheikh-aremeyaw\/\">cause for optimism<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>He said he was confident of the sector Minister, Boniface Abubakar Siddique&#8217;s ability to deliver on the promises.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia says the Akufo-Addo administration will do all it can to uplift the living standard of Muslims in the country.
