Communications and Governance Consultant, Kathleen Addy is asking the Ministry of Youth and Sports to publish the list of Ghanaian supporters it sent to Brazil to support the Black Stars in the 2014 World Cup.

This she said will enable the government identify the individuals who are still in Brazil.

Her request comes after hundreds of Ghanaian fans who were coordinated by government to support the Black Stars in Brazil decided seek asylum in that country.

The supporters cited religious conflict between Muslim groups in Ghana as the reason for their refusal to return to Ghana.

Speaking on Citi FM’s The Big Issue, Addy said government must identify the individuals involved in the matter.

“We must have a full list and I think we need to see who went and who didn’t go on government subvention,” she said.

According to her, the Sports Ministry “should have a list of people who returned because thankfully, these are things which are not only managed by Ghana government.”

Addy suggested that if the government does not know the number of persons who returned, “they can go to an airline and they can tell you who sat in their plane.”

She also urged the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hannah Tetteh, to provide a detailed explanation to Ghanaians on the matter.

“This is really what her job is and not to send funny messages when people are expressing themselves well within their constitutional rights.”

Kathleen Addy asked the Foreign Minister to tell Ghanaians “why this government has embarrassed us to this extent.”

Meanwhile, the government has refuted the claims of the said supporters and has asked the Ghanaian Ambassador in Brazil to investigate the matter.
