{"id":313694,"date":"2017-04-25T11:16:11","date_gmt":"2017-04-25T11:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=313694"},"modified":"2017-04-25T11:16:11","modified_gmt":"2017-04-25T11:16:11","slug":"cleaners-turn-accra-pavements-into-refuse-dump-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/cleaners-turn-accra-pavements-into-refuse-dump-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Cleaners turn Accra pavements into refuse dump [Photos]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The walkway under the Old Achimota overhead appears to have been converted into a dumping site with heaps of refuse almost spilling over onto the road.<\/p>\n<p>Street sweepers under the Zoomlion National Youth Employment Programme module, are also along with pedestrians and residents, contributing to the refuse heaped there.<\/p>\n<p>The sweepers who interacted with <strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0at the Old Achimota walkway indicated that, they have been instructed by their bosses to dump the refuse they collect on the pavement for collection later on.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-313700\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Refuse-dumping-at-Achimota-Walkway-2.jpg\" alt=\"refuse-dumping-at-achimota-walkway-2\" width=\"630\" height=\"473\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-313701 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Refuse-dumping-at-Achimota-Walkway-3.jpg\" alt=\"refuse-dumping-at-achimota-walkway-3\" width=\"630\" height=\"473\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Organic waste generated from homes and inorganic waste are all dumped on the pavement.<\/p>\n<p>The situation was the same at Lapaz where the Zoomlion sweepers claimed that their bosses told them to pile the refuse on the pavement for collection.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-313756\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Lapaz-refuse-4.jpg\" alt=\"lapaz-refuse-4\" width=\"630\" height=\"354\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-313754\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Lapaz-refuse-2.jpg\" alt=\"lapaz-refuse-2\" width=\"630\" height=\"354\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the sweepers suggested to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> that, the delay in collecting the refuse might be due to faulty trucks.<\/p>\n<p>Some hawkers on the pavement at the Old Achimota walkway complained that the refuse there often lasts for almost a month before Zoomlion trucks come for collection.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-313702\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Refuse-dumping-at-Achimota-Walkway-4.jpg\" alt=\"refuse-dumping-at-achimota-walkway-4\" width=\"630\" height=\"473\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-313703\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Refuse-dumping-at-Achimota-Walkway-5.jpg\" alt=\"refuse-dumping-at-achimota-walkway-5\" width=\"630\" height=\"473\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But one of the Zoomlion sweepers, who spoke to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, said the rubbish did not remain under the walkway for about a month as was alleged, but was usually collected after two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The sweeper admitted that, refuse heaped under the walkway was worrying, but said there was nowhere else for them to dump the rubbish.<\/p>\n<p>She further revealed to <strong>Citi News <\/strong>that\u00a0she and her colleagues have not been paid their GhC100.00 monthly salary since January.
