{"id":313054,"date":"2017-04-22T17:14:04","date_gmt":"2017-04-22T17:14:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=313054"},"modified":"2017-04-22T17:14:04","modified_gmt":"2017-04-22T17:14:04","slug":"central-university-college-unveils-multipurpose-broadcasting-studio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/central-university-college-unveils-multipurpose-broadcasting-studio\/","title":{"rendered":"Central University unveils multipurpose broadcasting studio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Communications Studies of Central University has unveiled a state of the art \u00a0Central Broadcasting Studios (CBS) \u00a0at its Miotso Campus to enhance the study of communications at the institution.<\/p>\n<p>The network houses a state of the art radio station, a television studio which is yet to be completed and a recording studio.<\/p>\n<p>The radio station dubbed, Radio Central is being broadcast online and can be accessed via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.central.edu.gh\">www.central.edu.gh<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the launch of the multipurpose studio on Friday, the Chancellor of Central University, Dr\u00a0Mensa Otabil challenged the Communications Studies students to localize the station by aiming at smaller communities and telling their stories.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-313066\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Central-University-broadcasting-3.jpeg\" alt=\"central-university-broadcasting-3\" width=\"678\" height=\"409\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Chancellor advised that content and programs should be geared towards a clearly defined audience. \u2018\u2019Radio has become frivolous because broadcasters don\u2019t know who they are talking to,\u2019\u2019 Dr Otabil stated.<\/p>\n<p>According to him,\u00a0 the studio should not aim at speaking to Ghana but addressing issues in immediate communities to be able to develop depth and eventually allow for monitoring of the impacts made. \u2018\u2019A great tool has been given to you, don\u2019t waste it, take it seriously\u2019\u2019, he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of the Communications Department of the university, Dr Ransford Antwi said he was hopeful new studio will ensure the Department becomes the best among its peers as far as media training institutions are concerned.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019There are lots of institutions in the country providing media training but we will not settle for mediocrity\u2019\u2019 he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Antwi however charged the communication students to use the studios efficiently and responsibly and not give in to the trivialities that have engulfed some aspects of the Ghanaian media.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, the Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah who was the special guest of honor was hopeful that the department, which is the country&#8217;s youngest, will soon become the most important following the unveiling of the studios.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Yankah who is also the\u00a0immediate former Vice Chancellor of the University called on the students to \u2018\u2019go beyond newspaper headlines and rather use the platform given to the benefit of surrounding communities such as Prampram, Dawhenya, Ningo.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-313065\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Central-University-broadcasting-2-1024x787.jpeg\" alt=\"central-university-broadcasting-2\" width=\"704\" height=\"542\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He urged the students to avoid frivolities and relatively combine information and active communication to benefit the community.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Communications Studies of Central University was established in 2011 and has since seen two batches of students graduate in 2015 and 2016.\u00a0 Among its mainstream programs are, advertising, public relations, new media, broadcast and print journalism.
