President Akufo-Addo has given indications that his government will ensure that persons who are found guilty in the recent distrurbances in Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, face the full rigours of the law.

He said his government will not countenance any acts of lawlessness and impunity.

[contextly_sidebar id=”pbYAlgGc9FtbJR9FKsT3b5Z00h7wp0lw”]A vigilante group affiliated to the NPP, Delta Force, last month stormed the premises of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and manhandled the President’s appointee for the Regional Security Coordinator position in a bloody attack.

An attempt to make some of the culprits involved face the law, took an interesting turn last week, when other members of the group stormed a Kumasi Circuit Court, and freed the 13 of their members who were facing charges for causing the earlier disturbances.

The group vandalized some court property, and almost assaulted the Judge, Mary Senkyere, after she had ruled that, the accused be remanded to reappear before the court on the 20th of April, 2017.

The incident has seen many affected groups including the Ghana Bar Association and Judicial Council expressing their resentment, with other calls for the perpetrators to be severely punished.

Some Ghanaians had also accused the President of failing to call the pro-NPP group to order, but delivering his Easter message to Ghanaians, the President expressed regret over the incident, and vowed his government will not tolerate such acts.

“I regret very much the unfortunate incidence that happened in Kumasi recently. In as much as the law enforcement agencies and judiciary have moved in to apply the laws of our land, let me reiterate that it will not be under my watch that people will act with impunity. Neither will it be under my watch that the laws of our lands will not be respected. That will not happen.”

He stressed that the law will be fully applied “without fear or favour.”

“Crime has no political colour under my government. We are a nation governed by the rule of law, and the law will work without fear or favour,” the President said.

Akufo-Addo had previously noted that the issue was being addressed appropriately.

He told the press at a recent media address at the Peduase Lodge that moves were underway to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book .

He further reiterated government’s commitment to work with the rule of law.

“In all the difficulties that have emerged, the events in Kumasi, we believe that those events are systematically being brought under control in the way that they should be, and reassuring the nation that the commitment that we made that we are going to serve Ghana under the conditions of the rule of law,” he said.
