A senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is predicting that four out of the seven aspirants in the race for the party’s flagbearer position will perform poorly.

The Adansi Asokwa lawmaker, Kobina Tahir Hammond said the likes of Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Francis Addai Nimoh and Kofi Osei Ameyaw have no business dreaming of leading the NPP.

He was endorsing the content of an article published by the Chronicle newspaper on Thursday which similarly argued that all four men should not have picked up nomination forms to run for the position of a presidential candidate.

In an exclusive interview with Citi News’ Parliamentary correspondent, Richard Sky, Mr. Hammond opined that the four individuals “do not love this party the way they claim; they don’t!”

“They are wasting everybody’s time,” he said, adding that the country is facing “difficult and serious times and we must be very serious. We must be mindful of the matters, the enormity of the problems that face the country at this moment.”

He described their decision to contest as an “irresponsible act” which has “put all of us into jeopardy.”

The former Energy Minister indicated that their participation in the contest will prolong the process of electing a flagbearer to lead the party into the 2016 general elections.

The constitution of the NPP states that if more than five candidates file to contest the flagbearership position of the party, then a super delegates’ conference should be organized to prune the number to five.

Mr. Hammond pointed out that the super delegates’ conference will increase the expenditure of the NPP and suggested that the money the four individuals used in paying their filing fee could have been used to support the activities of the NPP “to make sure that we take the reins of power and look after this country.”

He predicted that the four contestants “will lose so abysmally, it doesn’t make sense to me! I will not vote for a single one of them!”

The Adansi Asokwa MP said considering the clarion call on the two-time presidential candidate of the part, Nana Akufo-Addo to contest, it is impossible for the likes of Asamoah Boateng to wrestle the position from the grips of Nana Addo.

Nana Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyeremanten, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Kofi Osei Ameyaw, Francis Addai Nimoh, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng and Joe Ghartey are set to contest to lead the party.
