received more damning descriptions from the international public.<\/p>\n<p>According to a study conducted by the Cambridge University Press, the top words used by various media reports worldwide in relation to Ghana\u2019s World Cup campaign were \u201cmoney\u201d, \u201cstrike\u201d, \u201cpowerful\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>These words stem from the Black Stars\u2019 troubles associated with rows over the payment of appearance fees to the players and the airlifting of three million US dollars in cash to Brazil to settle these payments.<\/p>\n<p>The gesture, which was done by the Government of Ghana and was revealed by the Deputy Sports Minister, Joseph Yammin, became the subject of strong media coverage especially in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>Cambridge\u2019s study is a compilation of \u00a0frequently-used descriptives in the global media \u00a0for World Cup participants into a database.<\/p>\n<p>Other African countries were also given very instructive descriptions.<\/p>\n<p>Words used to describe Cameroon\u2019s World Cup were \u201chapless\u201d, \u201cbattle\u201d, and \u201cchaotic\u201d while Cote d\u2019Ivoire\u2019s stay in Brazil were tagged by words such as \u201cpace\u201d, \u201cphysical,\u201d and \u201cstruggle\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The more relatively successful African nations in Algeria and Nigeria were given tags of \u201cdetermined\u201d, \u201cpride\u201d, \u201ctogether\u201d and \u201cinexperienced\u201d, \u201cspeed\u201d and \u201ctough\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s run to the final of the competition has been given the labels of \u201c\u201dpowerful\u201d, \u201cfocused\u201d and \u201ccommitted\u201d while the hosts Brazil were often called \u201cemotional\u201d, \u201cpopular\u201d and \u201cdesperate\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow World Cup finalists, Argentina, were described with \u201cconfident\u201d, \u201cflair\u201d and \u201cunconvincing\u201d but the team they defeated in the semi-finals, Netherlands, were given the labels \u201crampaging\u201d, strategy\u201d and stunning\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Three Lions of England ended the World Cup with a point from three matches and were termed \u201cexciting\u201d, \u201cinexperienced\u201d and \u201cdisappointing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The database was created to gauge media and public perceptions of the various teams taking part in
