The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has revealed it is yet to send relief items to flood victims in the Jomoro District in the Western Region because they have run out of relief items.

Some homes and schools have been submerged by flood waters following continuous heavy downpour in the district.

According to NADMO, the flooding occurred because the rivers in the district overflowed their banks during the rains.

James Benson, the NADMO Coordinator for the Jomoro District told Citi News, that 10 communities have so far been affected by the floods.

He disclosed that some personnel from the National Secretariat Rescue and Research team “came round to see what was happening. They left only yesterday to Accra and we are waiting on them for more help because there are no items to support the victims, although we have consoled them. We are waiting for some items to help alleviate the hardship of the people.”

He explained their difficulties saying, “we have not sent any relief item to anybody. We have sent a report to Sekondi because right now, we have no relief items in our store.”

“According to people who came from Accra, they have bulldozers that they’ll bring down so that we excavate so that the water will go into the sea. That is what we discussed and that is what we are waiting for,” he explained.
