set suspects free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of a vigilante group affiliated to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Delta Force, stormed the Kumasi Circuit Court today [Thursday], and freed the members of their group who were facing charges for causing disturbances at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.<\/p>\n<p>A reporter who was in court told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> that the group vandalized\u00a0some court properties, and almost assaulted the Judge, Mary Senkyire.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;V2kG733EJsZuO2IULf7jfNjPAxZfYmTW&#8221;]The judge had ruled that\u00a0they be remanded to appear before court on the 20th of April, 2017 after charges of conspiracy to assault a public officer and causing unlawful damage.<\/p>\n<p>The 13 were detained in connection with the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/31\/delta-force-backtracks-pledges-support-to-security-coordinator\/\">group\u2019s raiding<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of the Regional Coordinating Council on March\u00a024, 2017, where they were alleged to have assaulted the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, George Adjei.<\/p>\n<p>After the judge&#8217;s decision to remand the suspects, the members said they were not going to allow the ruling to stand, and demanded that the 13 leave the court with them.<\/p>\n<p>According to the reporter, the judge stood in shock at the group\u2019s behaviour, and was on the verge of being brutalized up by the vigilante group before police intervened and ushered her into her chamber.<\/p>\n<p>No arrest has as yet been made in connection with the court disturbances, although some police officers were present at the Court.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WwKmwU69zgM\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Slap in the face of Nana Addo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This latest incident involving the Delta Force, will come as a slap in the face of President Nana Akufo-Addo, who was on a tour of the Ashanti Region just this past weekend, where he assured that the rule of law will work <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/01\/laws-will-work-without-fear-or-favour-nana-addo\/\">without \u201cfear or favour\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 when he appeared before the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo also assured the Asantehene that, his government was working to quell similar incidents of vigilante action.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-307006 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Nana-Addo-1.jpg\" alt=\"nana-addo-1\" width=\"640\" height=\"447\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After the attack on the Security Coordinator, the Delta Force had apologized to the President, and pledged its support to the Regional Security Coordinator following the intervention by the National Executive Council of the New Patriotic Party.<\/p>\n<p>As the tensions simmered, President Akufo-Addo subsequently <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/28\/wontumi-summoned-by-nana-addo-over-delta-force-attacks\/\">summoned<\/a><\/strong><\/span> the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, to answer to the\u00a0circumstances that led to the raid.<\/p>\n<p>But there has been some concern and criticism towards Nana\u00a0Akufo-Addo&#8217;s administration over the perceived laxity towards dealing with pro-government vigilante groups, which have been involved in a number of raids on government institutions since the NPP won the 2016 elections.<\/p>\n<p>Some social commentators have <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/25\/govts-silence-on-delta-force-attack-disappointing-casley-hayford\/\">expressed disappointment<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in government\u2019s inability to deal with such vigilante groups in the country.<\/p>\n<p>It has been suggested that, the uncontrolled\u00a0activities of vigilante groups are slowly turning Ghana into a <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/26\/delta-force-attack-ghana-becoming-lawless-society-casely-hayford\/\">lawless land<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in the name of political expediency.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Members of a vigilante group affiliated to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Delta Force, stormed the Kumasi Circuit Court today [Thursday], and freed the members of their group who were facing charges for causing disturbances at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.
