{"id":307744,"date":"2017-04-04T07:49:28","date_gmt":"2017-04-04T07:49:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=307744"},"modified":"2017-04-04T07:49:28","modified_gmt":"2017-04-04T07:49:28","slug":"stopgalamseynow-campaign-moves-to-western-region-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/stopgalamseynow-campaign-moves-to-western-region-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"#StopGalamseyNow campaign moves to Western Region [Photos]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Citi FM has once again hit the streets today [Tuesday] after launching the #StopGalamseyNow campaign on Monday to raise awareness about the menace of illegal mining.<\/p>\n<p>Citi FM staff will again be distributing leaflets at vantage points in Accra and the campaign will also move to Takoradi in the Western Region, which is one of the worst hit by the dire consequences of galamsey.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-307814\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/StopGalamseyNow-in-the-Western-Region-5.jpg\" alt=\"stopgalamseynow-in-the-western-region-5\" width=\"631\" height=\"631\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-307811 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/StopGalamseyNow-in-the-Western-Region-2-e1491298057997.jpg\" alt=\"stopgalamseynow-in-the-western-region-2\" width=\"631\" height=\"429\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Volunteers from Paragon FM, Citi FM&#8217;s partner station in Western Region, joined in to distribute fliers on Takoradi streets.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-307818\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/StopGalamseyNow-in-the-Western-Region-1.jpg\" alt=\"stopgalamseynow-in-the-western-region-1\" width=\"631\" height=\"473\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-307814\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/StopGalamseyNow-in-the-Western-Region-5.jpg\" alt=\"stopgalamseynow-in-the-western-region-5\" width=\"630\" height=\"630\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The launch of the campaign was well received by Ghanaians with Organisations such as the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) and the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) throwing its support behind Citi FMs campaign to compel\u00a0government\u00a0to take definitive action to end illegal mining activities.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-307816 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/StopGalamseyNow-in-the-Western-Region-7-e1491301122212.jpg\" alt=\"stopgalamseynow-in-the-western-region-7\" width=\"630\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-307813 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/StopGalamseyNow-in-the-Western-Region-4.jpg\" alt=\"stopgalamseynow-in-the-western-region-4\" width=\"627\" height=\"627\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The campaign makes five clear demands of government:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The total cessation of all small and medium scale mining for a period of six months<\/li>\n<li>The cessation of the issuance of new mining licences for a year<\/li>\n<li>The reclassification of mining categories to reflect the use of new\/larger equipment<\/li>\n<li>The allowance of water bodies to regenerate their natural ecology<\/li>\n<li>Tree planting and a land reclamation project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Citi FM wants citizens to join the galamsey fight \u201cbecause it is a national cancer, it is devastating our water bodies, it is poisoning our future and we can&#8217;t afford to just sit by and watch it,\u201d the station&#8217;s Director of News Programming, Benard Avle said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEssentially, we are saying that galamsey must get to the point where the public conscience must be pricked and people must get involved.
