The chiefs and people of Banda Nkwanta in the Brong Ahafo Region are threatening to forcefully seize some plots of land\u00a0in the Bui area.<\/p>\n
The people believe that the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has failed to demarcate the land that\u00a0serves as\u00a0the forest reserve of the Bui National Park.<\/p>\n
The chiefs and people have threatened to seize the plots of land by the end of July.<\/p>\n
According to them, the land which was leased to the government to be used for a national park has illegally been sold to galamsey miners by the Game and Wildlife Division officials.<\/p>\n
They are further accusing some workers of the Games and Wildlife Division of conniving with some illegally miners to\u00a0destroy\u00a0their lands.<\/p>\n
On Monday, it was reported that some of the Galamsey miners have been trapped underground, prompting the residents to rush to the area.<\/p>\n
However, on reaching the place, where the pits are dug, some officials from the Game and Wildlife Division prevented them from opening the pits, assuring that nothing had gone on there.<\/p>\n
Citi News\u2019<\/b> Brong Ahafo Regional Correspondent Kwadwo Brefo spoke to the District Chief Executive, James Jagger on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
The DCE informed Citi News<\/b> that the chiefs and people in the area have expressed interest in small scale mining.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cTheir request is still under consideration by the regional Security Council, considering that that portion of the land is now under the control of the green and white land division. The chiefs and people of the area have realised that the land should not be used for dangerous mining activities.\u201d<\/p>\n
