According to the party, government will use the $ 156 million loan facility for the Ghana Education Improvement Programme as another cover\u00a0to embezzle funds.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a Press Conference to clarify the NPP\u2019s stance on the issue, the MP for Dormaa-West, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu says government\u2019s insistence on creating a new body to disburse the scholarship component of the loan facility is just a ploy to loot the nation\u2019s resources.<\/p>\n
He\u00a0stated that about 40 percent of the loan facility will go to supervising consultants.<\/p>\n
He questioned\u00a0why the Ministry of Education could not monitor and supervise the provision of educational infrastrure under the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cIs this the way to build the capacity of educational institutions? Obviously no, it is all a dishonest strategy to create avenues to siphon public funds.\u201d<\/p>\n
He therefore urged \u201cthe World Bank to reconsider the project and bring good governance consideration to bare.\u201d<\/p>\n

The World Bank has granted the government of Ghana a $156 million loan facility to develop the nation\u2019s educational sector.<\/p>\n
The loan among others will support government\u2019s Community Day Senior High School program, provide scholarship for students in deprived communities, fund the construction of Senior High Schools and provide free sanitary pads to young girls at the SHS level.<\/p>\n
The loan facility has however generated public outcry with many questioning how government plans to sustain some components.<\/p>\n
A Senior Education Specialist has however defended the project saying it will be results based.<\/p>\n
