Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has justified President Nana Addo’s appointment of some 110 ministers including deputies, to serve in his\u00a0government.<\/p>\n
According to him, the best way\u00a0to evaluate the Akufo-Addo government is on the basis of how they deliver on their promises and not on the size of the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know at the end of the day, the end will justify the inclusion,\u201d the Suame MP stated on the floor of parliament.<\/p>\n
He further urged the Appointments Committee to work expeditiously during the vetting.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving said that, Mr. Speaker, I chose my words advisedly. I will urge the Appointments Committee to work expeditiously.\u201d<\/p>\n
President Akufo-Addo on recently\u00a0nominated 50 deputies and 4 others\u00a0to serve as Ministers of State at the presidency and ministries, bringing his total number of ministers to 110, the highest in Ghana\u2019s Fourth\u00a0Republic.<\/p>\n
The President has since come under intense criticism since the appointment. While some have argued that the decision will lead to bureaucracy, others believe that it will only worsen corruption.<\/p>\n
But the President on Friday defended his decision, saying the unprecedented problems confronting Ghana demand a large government.<\/p>\n
“I don\u2019t believe that my government in the Fourth Republic has big numbers in view of the swollen challenges,\u201d the President said in an interview with the Daily Graphic and Ghana Television.”<\/p>\n
The President reiterated that the initial justification from that the weak nature of the economy required a competent army.<\/p>\n
