Organizers of the #OccupyFlagstaffHouse demonstration have introduced a new Campaign called the “Red Friday” to pressurize government to respond to concerns listed in their petition to the President.

According to the Concerned Ghanaians for Responsible Governance the “Red Friday”, the main objective of the campaign is to keep the issues raised in their petition alive until government responds.

The group embarked on a demonstration on July 1 to protest the living conditions in the country.

They subsequently submitted a petition to the Presidency which was received by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Valery Sawyer.

The Executive Secretary of the group, George Kojo Anti in an interview with Citi News said government must address the challenges facing the nation with urgency; hence the decision to organize the “Red Friday”.

He noted that the issues raised in the petition they presented to the President on July 1“are issues that are symptomatic of the hardships of the ordinary Ghanaian.”

Explaining the “Red Friday” concept, Mr. Anti stated that it is a weekly social media campaign mainly on Twitter and Facebook.

From Sunday to Thursday, the petition points will be posted, reposted, tweeted and retweeted for Ghanaians to be familiar with the issues which will inform their active participation in discussions which will take place on Friday.

In addition, he encouraged participants of the campaign to wear African prints and at least, one visible red item every Friday.

Government had planned to officially respond to the #OccupyFlagStaffHouse protestors but has postponed the press conference indefinitely.

Meanwhile, the offices of two leaders of the Concerned Ghanaians for Responsible Governance have been ransacked.

The unknown persons made away with laptops and a hard drive.

Mr. Anti told Citi News they suspect foul play because “if you look at the items that the robbers made away with, it’s suspicious because the office of they broke into contained other valuables which were also in sight and an everyday robber would have taken.”

The robbers made away with two laptops, two hard discs and a tablet.

He said he is convinced that the perpetrators of the crime were seeking to “collect items which have information.”
