{"id":299584,"date":"2017-03-07T09:00:53","date_gmt":"2017-03-07T09:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=299584"},"modified":"2017-03-07T09:00:53","modified_gmt":"2017-03-07T09:00:53","slug":"new-gh%c2%a25-note-to-be-circulated-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/new-gh%c2%a25-note-to-be-circulated-today\/","title":{"rendered":"New GH\u00a25 note to be circulated today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/03\/new-ghc5-note-becomes-legal-tomorrow-circulation-on-march-7\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>GH\u00a25 note<\/strong><\/span><\/a> which was outdoored by the Bank of Ghana last Friday as a\u00a0 commemorative note of its anniversary will be in circulation today [Tuesday, March 7, 2017].<\/p>\n<p>One distinctive feature of the new note is that it has an engraved portrait of Dr James Kwegyir Aggrey, a missionary and a teacher who contributed immensely to education in the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n<p>The note also has tactile markings to assist the visually impaired. The colour of the \u2018GH\u00a2 5\u2019 figure at the top left corner of the note, changes colour from green to blue when tilted.<a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/03\/new-ghc5-note-becomes-legal-tomorrow-circulation-on-march-7\/new-5-cedi-note-1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-298641\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-298641\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/New-5-cedi-note-1.jpg\" alt=\"new-5-cedi-note-1\" width=\"600\" height=\"418\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There have been concerns that the new note will replace the old ones but a member of the Currency Department of the Bank of Ghana, Mr Dominic Owusu stressed that the new currency will be used alongside the old currency.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some currency analysts have debunked rumours that the new currency will create issues when it is ran through a counting machine due to its relatively smaller size. The General Manager, Treasury of the HFC Bank, Joseph Nketiah told Citi News that, \u201cit will not be a problem at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/03\/new-ghc5-note-becomes-legal-tomorrow-circulation-on-march-7\/new-5-cedi-note-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-298642\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-298642\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/New-5-cedi-note-2.jpg\" alt=\"new-5-cedi-note-2\" width=\"600\" height=\"419\" \/><\/a>\u201cThe counting machines are not designed for a spefic currency so they are designed to take difference sizes of currency.
