Patrons were taken through the history behind some of the Ashanti Wars.<\/p>\n<p>The Kumasi Fort and Military Museum is one of few military museums in Africa. It is located in the Uaddara Barracks in Kumasi.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-299390 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Heritage-Caravan-day-2-13-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"heritage-caravan-day-2-13\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-299391 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Heritage-Caravan-day-2-1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"heritage-caravan-day-2-1\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Kumasi Fort was built in 1820 by the Asantehene (the King of the Asante Kingdom), Osei Tutu Kwamina, to resemble the coastal forts which were built by European merchants.<\/p>\n<p>Kumasi Fort had to be rebuilt in 1897, after it was destroyed by British forces in 1874.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-299392\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Heritage-Caravan-day-2-2-1024x574.jpg\" alt=\"heritage-caravan-day-2-2\" width=\"620\" height=\"348\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-299393 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Heritage-Caravan-day-2-3-1024x574.jpg\" alt=\"heritage-caravan-day-2-3\" width=\"620\" height=\"348\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Patrons were taken on a tour of the over 5 museums that exhibits military equipment, artefacts and other objects used in the British-Asante war of 1990 and during the Second World War.<\/p>\n<p>The collection includes weapons of war, colours, medals, armoured cars, anti-aircraft guns, photographs and portraits.<\/p>\n<p>This serves as a valuable historical institution for tracing the evolution and development of the Gold Coast Regiment of the colonial era, to the present-day Ghana Armed Forces.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-299394 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Heritage-Caravan-day-2-4-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"heritage-caravan-day-2-4\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-299395 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Heritage-Caravan-day-2-5-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"heritage-caravan-day-2-5\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There is a British Military Cemetery just about 200m northwest of the Kumasi Fort and Military Museum, which contains graves of British casualties of the Yaa Asantewaa War.<\/p>\n<p>The next tour for patrons was the Komfo Anokye Sword site.It is believed that Okomfo Anokye\u2019s planted sword and every means to pull from the ground has failed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-299396 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Heritage-Caravan-day-2-6-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"heritage-caravan-day-2-6\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-299399 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Heritage-Caravan-day-2-8-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"heritage-caravan-day-2-8\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a symbol of the\u00a0unification of the Ashanti Kingdom, Okomfo Anokye planted a sword and said\u00a0if anyone removes the sword, then that marks the end of the Ashanti Empire.<\/p>\n<p>Dating over three hundred years, the sword Anokye plunged into the earth, remains on the ground of a hospital named after him: Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-299400 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Heritage-Caravan-day-2-9-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"heritage-caravan-day-2-9\" width=\"620\" height=\"414\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-299401\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Heritage-Caravan-day-2-10-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"heritage-caravan-day-2-10\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Kojo Agyeman\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Day two of the second edition of the Citi FM Heritage Caravan begun in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.
