One of the workers, who spoke to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> said, the larger, reinforced group tried to vandalize property but were quickly stopped when police got to\u00a0the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Though at the time <strong>Citi News<\/strong> got there, work had resumed and patrons were still buying food, there was heavy police presence at the branch. The Police said they were there to protect life and property.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-299231 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Marwako-fast-food-1.jpg\" alt=\"marwako-fast-food-1\" width=\"960\" height=\"659\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There had been some fears on social media the incident had escalated into a full-blown mob attack on the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>This incident followed <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/03\/lebanese-arrested-for-shoving-ghanaian-employees-face-in-pepper\/\">the alleged assault<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of a female employee at the eatery by her Lebanese supervisor, although\u00a0no direct connection has been established between the two incidents as yet.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a0Ghanaian female employee had her face shoved\u00a0and held\u00a0down in a bowl of pepper by her Lebanese supervisor on Sunday, February 26. News of this assault sparked outrage from sections of the public, but the backlash was mostly limited to calls for a boycott of the fast food chain.<\/p>\n<p>Management of\u00a0Marwako\u00a0has <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/04\/marwako-suspends-lebanese-supervisor-for-assaulting-ghanaian-worker\/\">since suspended<\/a><\/strong><\/span> the branch supervisor alleged to have physically assaulted the Ghanaian employee.<\/p>\n<p>The supervisor in question, one Jihad Chaaban, was arrested and interrogated by police, but is currently on bail pending further investigations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marwako\u00a0at the\u00a0centre\u00a0of similar mob action in 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Marwako&#8217;s Mamobbi branch similarly\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/07\/06\/angry-mob-attacks-marwako-restaurant-for-shooting-of-taxi-driver\/\">faced the wrath of a vengeful mob<\/a><\/strong><\/span> on July 6, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant gave shelter to a policeman, who was being sought by an angry mob for allegedly shooting and killing a taxi driver.<\/p>\n<p>According to an eyewitness, the mob, consisting of about 30 people, attacked the policeman who was later rescued by some residents who took him to the restaurant for cover.<\/p>\n<p>But the angry mob besieged the restaurant demanding action against the policeman, and ended up vandalizing the facility&#8217;s assets.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is police presence at the Abelemkpe branch of\u00a0Marwako\u00a0Fast Foods in Accra, \u00a0following a confrontation between some Ghanaians and the Lebanese owners on Saturday evening.
