They have resolved to stay out of the lecture halls and other offices until a substantive Deputy Rector is elected.<\/p>\n<p>A convocation to elect a Deputy Rector today [Thursday], was called off by the acting Registrar, Julius Atikpui, who explained\u00a0in a letter that the decision was reached in consultation with the Ministry of Education, and the National Council for Tertiary Education.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/c5ae2611-75a0-4ff4-a95f-4a40a8a96cdc-e1487262407155.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/c5ae2611-75a0-4ff4-a95f-4a40a8a96cdc-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-294973\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/c5ae2611-75a0-4ff4-a95f-4a40a8a96cdc-1.jpg\" alt=\"c5ae2611-75a0-4ff4-a95f-4a40a8a96cdc\" width=\"721\" height=\"823\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, the staff believe the decision to cancel the convocation is a deliberate one to frustrate the process, hence the notice of a strike.<\/p>\n<p>According to a mail sent to all staff members and seen by <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, \u201cthe decision to strike arose from the failure by GIMPA Management to conform to a key element of voting to elect a Deputy Rector today as provided within the road map of 31st January, 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It further added that,\u201cthe behaviour by Management is contrary to the advice of the lawyers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/c5ae2611-75a0-4ff4-a95f-4a40a8a96cdc-1.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/784ecfe9-04f4-4fb0-a1f2-d40cc32ef4a6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-294976\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/784ecfe9-04f4-4fb0-a1f2-d40cc32ef4a6-1024x577.jpg\" alt=\"784ecfe9-04f4-4fb0-a1f2-d40cc32ef4a6\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The letter also asked staff members to be bold and resilient in the decision taken.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease be bold and conform to this directive. This applies to both administrative, teaching and supporting staff.
