The Buipe bridge in the\u00a0Northern Region will be closed to vehicular traffic and the traveling public from Friday, February 17th<\/sup> to Wednesday, 8th<\/sup> March 2017 for emergency repair works.<\/p>\n

A statement from the Ghana Highway Authority and signed by the Ministry of Roads and Highways said only vehicles weighing up to 20 tons will be allowed to cross the bridge between 6am to 2pm each day during the period of the repair works.<\/p>\n

  1. North bound (traveling from the south towards Tamale)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Route: Kumasi \u2013 Techiman \u2013 Wenchi \u2013 Sawla \u2013 Fufulso Junction \u2013 Tamale<\/p>\n

    1. South bound (traveling from Tamale towards the south)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Route: Tamale \u2013 Fufulso Junction \u2013 Sawla \u2013 Wenchi \u2013 Techiman<\/p>\n

      The authority said it will ensure it works diligently to ensure that the repair works are completed on time to ease the inconvenience the development might bring to commuters.<\/p>\n

      It noted that the bridge, “is located on the international transit corridor which serves Ghana and its landlocked neighbours and it is therefore of significant economic importance to sub-regional trade.”<\/p>\n

      The Authority further appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with it in its quest\u00a0to ensure the structural integrity of the bridge in protection of life and property.<\/p>\n

      “Motorists are advised to adhere to directional and safety signs that will be made available at appropriate locations on the corridor. As the adage, the best drivers are aware that they must beware. Let remember that safety first and normal speed meet every need,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
