{"id":293671,"date":"2017-02-11T18:27:59","date_gmt":"2017-02-11T18:27:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=293671"},"modified":"2017-02-11T18:27:59","modified_gmt":"2017-02-11T18:27:59","slug":"nr-security-council-visits-troubled-bimbilla","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/02\/nr-security-council-visits-troubled-bimbilla\/","title":{"rendered":"N\/R Security Council visits \u2018troubled\u2019 Bimbilla"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Regional Security Council has visited the Bimbilla township to ascertain the extent of damage last Thursday&#8217;s clashes caused.<\/p>\n<p>The team was led by the Northern Regional Coordinating Director who is currently acting as the Northern Regional Minister for the region, Alhaji Issahaku Alhassan.<\/p>\n<p>They also visited the regent of Bimbilla, Yakubu Andani Dasana Nyeliboligu Naa.<\/p>\n<p>Ten people <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/02\/10\/bimbilla-shootings-death-toll-now-10-11-wounded\/\"><strong>lost their lives<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and several others were severely wounded after sporadic gunshots in Bimbilla.<\/p>\n<p>The incident has been attributed to an attempted enskinment of a sub-chief in the town by the regent despite warnings from Police.<\/p>\n<p>Such sporadic eruptions of violence had been recorded in Bimbilla since 2014, after one of the persons in the longstanding kinship dispute between members of the Gbugmayili gate was assassinated.<\/p>\n<p>The interior Ministry has since reviewed the protracted curfew on the Bimbilla Township from 4:00 pm to 6:00am with immediate effect, following the shootings.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-293676 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/northern-regional-security-council-2.jpg\" alt=\"northern-regional-security-council-2\" width=\"689\" height=\"456\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The District Crime officer for Bimbilla, ASP Ebenezer Peprah earlier confirmed to Citi News that, \u201cso far there have been 10 dead bodies recovered, 17 arrested, and then 11 wounded. They are from both sides of the conflict, but majority are from the regent\u2019s side.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019ll deal with Bimbilla conflict once and for all \u2013 Nitiwul<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Minister of\u00a0Defense and Member of Parliament for the Bimbilla constituencyDominicnc Nitiwul, has pledged to ensure that chieftaincy disputes and related clashes in the constituency <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/02\/10\/well-deal-with-bimbilla-conflict-once-and-for-all-nitiwul\/\"><strong>do not recur<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking <strong>on Eyewitness News<\/strong>, he lamented that such clashes have over the years stalled development and other relevant socio-economic activities in the town.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-293675 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/northern-regional-security-council-1.jpg\" alt=\"northern-regional-security-council-1\" width=\"673\" height=\"505\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be sending reinforcement to ensure that it never happens again. It is a challenge; but I believe that challenge we can surmount it. It just calls for me and my team to ensure that this problem is solved once and for all; because we cannot continue like this so that everyone has peace.
