President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has indicated that players of the Black Stars will be made to sign contracts in the future when there are call-ups to the team. These contracts will deal with areas such as bonuses, appearance fees and general conduct on national team duty.<\/p>\n
The resolution was made on the back on the suspensions of Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari from the team following acts of indiscipline in Brazil during Ghana’s campaign in the World Cup.<\/p>\n
According to Kwesi Nyantakyi, the contracts will help curb a future occurrences of indiscipline in the team.<\/p>\n
“Moving from Brazil, we wish to state that the World Cup in Brazil has taught us bitter lessons. We must continue to emphasize discipline as the hallmark of our team and management will continue to help the coach to instill discipline in the team.<\/p>\n
The current rules and codes of conduct of the Black Stars will be transformed into contracts that will detailed terms and conditions as basis for invitations to the national team. The contracts will cover appearance fees and bonuses.”<\/p>\n
Background<\/strong><\/p>\n The FA President stated that bonuses for the World Cup (which are paid by FIFA at the end of the World Cup) were negotiated before the tournament but there was no agreement on a specific amount as the players refused to accept a proposed amount of $82,500 from the GFA. They wanted $100,000 in appearance fees.<\/p>\n The amount proposed by the GFA was an increment on the monies paid to the players during the 2010 World Cup but according to Nyantakyi, the players still wanted the $100,000 fee while the GFA said, looking at the prevailing economic conditions and the state’s capability, $82,500 was what they could offer.<\/p>\n Nyantakyi revealed that the players did not want the amounts paid into their accounts but they rather wanted cash payments in Brazil and that proved to be a challenge due to financial rules governing the transfer of cash across borders and the safety of the amounts through transit.<\/p>\n He also said that the delays were lengthened due to the unavailability of securing landing rights for a chartered flight that carried the appearance fees for the players.<\/p>\n He stated that the calls to the players to be patient during the World Cup were not heeded and before Ghana’s final group match against Portugal, player unrests emerged in the camp.<\/p>\n FIFA turned down?<\/strong><\/p>\n Nyantakyi also stated that FIFA was not turned away by the GFA but rather, FIFA got involved in the matter after they wrote to the GFA to find out why the Black Stars team had delayed in getting to Brasilia from Maceio for the third group match against Portugal.<\/p>\n Ghana had been sent to FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee for the offense and Nyantakyi said that he explained that player protests for appearance fees were the cause of the delay.<\/p>\n According to the FA boss, the GFA told FIFA to help with the matter of cash payment of appearance fees.
