The two men who were identified in an investigation by the British newspaper, the Telegraph, as engaging in an alleged attempt to fix Black Stars matches in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association have been arrested.<\/p>\n
Christopher Forsythe, \u00a0described as a licensed agent of football\u2019s governing body, FIFA and Obed Nketiah, also described as\u00a0an official of a Ghanaian football club respectively, were reportedly taken into custody days after a report was filed with the police by the GFA.<\/p>\n
The pair have since been granted bail while their statements are taken and have had travel restrictions placed on them to aid in investigations.<\/p>\n
The Daily Telegraph, on June 22 released a video which it claimed showed the president of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi, agreeing to to fix matches involving the Ghana national team.<\/p>\n
The GFA issued a statement debunking the allegations, stating that the contract was not signed by its officials and no request to fix matches was ever made to them, adding that the matter had been reported to the Ghana Police, FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News, <\/b>the Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, \u00a0ASP Joseph Darkwah, confirmed that Mr. Forsythe and Mr. Nketiah had been taken into custody as part of their investigations into the allegations.<\/p>\n
He revealed that the two were expected to report to the police station on Thursday for further questioning.<\/p>\n
He, however, insisted that no charges had, as yet, been brought against the two and until the investigations had been completed, \u201cthey are just suspects.\u201d<\/p>\n
ASP Darkwah added that the \u201csuspects were cooperating\u201d with the police and \u201cuntil there was enough evidence against them\u201d no charges would be brought against them.<\/p>\n
