{"id":288572,"date":"2017-01-27T06:05:37","date_gmt":"2017-01-27T06:05:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=288572"},"modified":"2017-01-27T06:05:37","modified_gmt":"2017-01-27T06:05:37","slug":"sunyani-chiefs-rejection-of-ba-minister-nominee-baseless-obiri-boahen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/01\/sunyani-chiefs-rejection-of-ba-minister-nominee-baseless-obiri-boahen\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunyani chiefs&#8217; rejection of B\/A minister nominee baseless &#8211; Obiri-Boahen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana\u00a0Obiri-Boahen, has said the rejection of President Akufo-Addo&#8217;s Minister-nominee for the Brong Ahafo Region, Kweku Asomah-Cheremeh, by Sunyani Traditional Council will come to nothing.<\/p>\n<p>He however said an attempt by people to promote\u00a0a back and forth on the matter, could create unnecessary tension in the Sunyani Township, considering that its only one paramountcy out of the many that has raised\u00a0the\u00a0concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The Sunyani Traditional Council at a news conference on Thursday, announced their rejection of the Minister-nominee for the Brong Ahafo Region, named by President Nana Akufo-Addo, because according to the council, Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh has over the years disrespected them through unwarranted attacks.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_288574\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-288574\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/5-12-1024x682-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-288574\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/5-12-1024x682-1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh (L)\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-288574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh (L)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mr. Obiri-Boahen acknowledged that the council had every right to complain about the nominee, but he suggested that they should have used more appropriate avenues to air their grievances.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, he said, \u201cI believe that to be fair to all of us, the proper thing they ought to have to have done was that they should have put their allegations and their grievances on paper and then submit same to the vetting committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Obiri-Boahen further downplayed the effect of the grievances of a single Traditional Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have about 30 paramount stools and traditional councils in this Region.\u00a0 So if one of the 30 decides to raise up a red flag, fair enough; but that is not sufficient justification for people to be reading a lot of meanings into the nomination of the Regional Chairman,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friction was resolved<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Obiri-Boahen also indicated that, President Akufo-Addo and the chiefs had settled the differences during the campaign period in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe went to the chief\u2019s palace and the chief raised some issues in the presence of Nana Addo, other chiefs and linguists, and then we said let sleeping dogs lie. There isn\u2019t the need for us to revisit what happened so we were able to bury our differences,\u201d he recounted.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the nominee, once a Regional Chairman for the party, was on the same day Thursday, given a rousing welcome into the Sunyani Township by hundreds of NPP supporters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the 2016 election campaign, the Sunyani Chief, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri,, endorsed the candidate of President Mahama, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/10\/20\/we-will-give-mahama-80-of-our-votes-sunyani-chief\/\">pledging 80% votes for the NDC.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The NPP&#8217;s Regional Chairman then, now the Regional Minister-nominee, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, who is also a lawyer reportedly scolded the chief and reminded him of the constitutional provisions regarding chiefs engaging in active partisan politics.<\/p>\n<p>But the chiefs felt offended by the criticism and demanded an apology, but the Regional Chairman refused to apologize.
