The Upper East Regional Educational Directorate is calling for a system to check the increasing rate of\u00a0 teenage pregnancies in the area.<\/p>\n

According to them, the rise in the number of teenage pregnancies by Basic Educational Certificate Examination candidates is worrying and should be curbed.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi News, the Upper East Regional Director of Education, Mr. Emmanuel Zumakpe expressed deep worry about the situation going on in the Upeer East Region.<\/p>\n

\u201cBongo and Kehenekene are leading the pack with 24 pregnancies each. And we have a total of 83 pregnancies in the region for this year alone. And these are just JSS children!\u201d<\/p>\n

He asked for funding to tackle the problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are just the confirmed cases .So it is a very serious issue. The issue of the teenage pregnancies we should put together a team and come up with a proposal and we will use the proposal to seek funding and tackle that problem.\u201d<\/p>\n
