{"id":286289,"date":"2017-01-19T11:24:16","date_gmt":"2017-01-19T11:24:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=286289"},"modified":"2017-01-19T11:24:16","modified_gmt":"2017-01-19T11:24:16","slug":"kumasi-shops-closed-down-over-asantehemaas-burial-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/01\/kumasi-shops-closed-down-over-asantehemaas-burial-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Kumasi shops closed down over Asantehemaa\u2019s burial [Photos]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shops in the Central business district of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have all been closed down today, Thursday following directive from the Manhyia Palace.<\/p>\n<p>The directive was issued to pave way for an atmosphere for the final burial rite service for the late Queen mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-286298 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/shops-in-kumasi-empty-9.jpg\" alt=\"shops-in-kumasi-empty-9\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today, Thursday, January 19, 2017 is the final day of the 4-day burial rites of the late Asantehemaa who had been lying in state since Monday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-286296 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/shops-in-kumasi-empty-7.jpg\" alt=\"shops-in-kumasi-empty-7\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Waste management companies within the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly are currently cleaning the streets from Manhyia through Kejetia to Bantama prior to burial procession which will be happening later today.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-286295 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/shops-in-kumasi-empty-6.jpg\" alt=\"shops-in-kumasi-empty-6\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Metropolitan Assembly&#8217;s PRO, Mr. Godwin Okuma Nyame who has been supervising the exercise told the media that &#8220;we want to make sure there is absolutely no filth when Nananom are passing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-286294 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/shops-in-kumasi-empty-5.jpg\" alt=\"shops-in-kumasi-empty-5\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Later on Thursday evening, no one is supposed to be seen on the streets between the hours of 8:00pm and 4:00am the next day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-286293 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/shops-in-kumasi-empty-4.jpg\" alt=\"shops-in-kumasi-empty-4\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Main trotro and taxi stations in the central business district have all been deserted in accordance with the directive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-286292 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/shops-in-kumasi-empty-3.jpg\" alt=\"shops-in-kumasi-empty-3\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This has left a few people who visited the business district stranded.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Lauretta Timah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shops in the Central business district of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have all been closed down today, Thursday following directive from the Manhyia Palace.
