{"id":286058,"date":"2017-01-18T16:39:55","date_gmt":"2017-01-18T16:39:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=286058"},"modified":"2017-01-18T16:39:55","modified_gmt":"2017-01-18T16:39:55","slug":"bawumia-pays-unexpected-visit-to-registrar-generals-department","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/01\/bawumia-pays-unexpected-visit-to-registrar-generals-department\/","title":{"rendered":"Bawumia pays unexpected visit to Registrar-General\u2019s Department"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Wednesday January 18, unexpectedly paid a visit to the Registrar-General\u2019s Department to identify the bottlenecks to acquaint himself with the activities of the state institution, and also to find out its challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bawumia interacted with owners of businesses and Ghanaians who were at the Department to register their businesses.<\/p>\n<p>He met a lot of people at the registry who also expressed their frustrations with the \u201cbureaucratic processes\u201d in registering their establishments.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-286063 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Bawumia-5-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"bawumia-5\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to Dr. Bawumia, the vision of the NPP administration is to make Ghana a \u201cbusiness friendly country\u201d and that dream must begin with the Registrar-General\u2019s Department.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda is currently ranked the most business-friendly country in Africa.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_286062\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-286062\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-286062\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Bawumia-4-1024x642.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Bawumia interacting with Ghanaians seeking to register their businesses.\" width=\"620\" height=\"389\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-286062\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Bawumia interacting with Ghanaians seeking to register their businesses.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Speaking later with the acting Registrar General Mrs. Jemima Oware, who was visibly surprised about the visit, Dr. Bawumia noted that, the Akufo-Addo-led administration is hoping to use the East African country\u2019s feat as a \u201cbenchmark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He thus urged authorities of the department to learn lessons from Rwanda, and implement same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a fulfilled visit and there will be follow-up discussions,\u201d Dr. Bawumia told the media after being briefed about the business registration process.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-286061 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Bawumia-3-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"bawumia-3\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He served notice there will be more of such surprise visits to other state institutions to make sure \u201cthings work in Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bawumia appealed to officials at the Department to speed up the processes and to do their best to position Ghana as a business-friendly environment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-286060 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Bawumia-2-1024x666.jpg\" alt=\"bawumia-2\" width=\"620\" height=\"403\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Oware complained about the three-month-old state attorneys strike which she said is taking a toll on the process because state lawyers are needed to review people\u2019s applications.<br \/>\n&#8211;<br \/>\nBy: Ebenezer Afanyi Dadzie\/ citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Wednesday January 18, unexpectedly paid a visit to the Registrar-General\u2019s Department to identify the bottlenecks to acquaint himself with the activities of the state institution, and also to find out its challenges.
