After weeks of speculation, President Nana Akuffo-Addo, has finally nominated Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua Nwabiegya, Isaac Asiamah, for the position of Minister for Youth and Sports.<\/p>\n
Asiamah was widely tipped for the position because of his work on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports in the last few years.<\/p>\n
Addressing the media at the Flagstaff House, President Akuffo-Addo, explained that Asiamah’s youth, poise and dynamism were very important elements needed to move Ghana sports forward and to bring development to the youth of Ghana.<\/p>\n
He also strongly hinted that Asiamah’s work would focus on developing young athletes.<\/p>\n
“There is the need for us to streamline Ghanaian sports and put it on a firm footing and all of us in Ghana will agree with that. We have a tremendous heritage in this area and it is time for that heritage to speak in this country whether it is football, athletics or boxing.<\/p>\n
I think that the energy, experience, exposure and dynamism that Isaac Asiamah has is the right mixture for us.<\/p>\n
Hopefully, now we will have a new age in sports in Ghana especially in making the connection between the official sporting hierarchy and the schools which traditionally ought to be the sources of sports people.<\/p>\n
That connection is what I believe Isaac Asiamah can make.”<\/p>\n
Asiamah will be vetted by the Appointments Committee and if he passes, he will be confirmed for the new job.<\/p>\n
Profile of Hon Isaac Asiamah<\/strong><\/p>\n Isaac Kwame Asiamah is 42 years old. He is a Graduate of University of Ghana, Legon with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Resource Development with Political Science.<\/p>\n He holds executive Masters in Governance and Leadership.<\/p>\n He entered Parliament in January 2005 at age 29, then as the youngest MP in Parliament on the ticket of the NPP for the Atwima Mponua Constituency in the Ashanti region, and is still the MP.<\/p>\n He was a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture, rising to become Vice Chairman of the same Committee, and later became the Chairman of the same Committee in his 1st term in Parliament.<\/p>\n He has also served on the following Committees: Public Accounts Committee, Finance Committee, Poverty Reduction Committee and Mines and Energy Committee Parliament of Ghana.
