{"id":284010,"date":"2017-01-11T20:23:34","date_gmt":"2017-01-11T20:23:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=284010"},"modified":"2017-01-11T20:23:34","modified_gmt":"2017-01-11T20:23:34","slug":"new-housing-fund-to-subsidize-cost-of-houses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/01\/new-housing-fund-to-subsidize-cost-of-houses\/","title":{"rendered":"New housing fund to subsidize cost of houses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister nominee for Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea has stated that the NPP government will introduce a housing fund to subsidize the cost of housing for low income earners.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;VQ7LNK8XtHjSdUOV6G0A6vxu9jhbOJ8b&#8221;]According to him, financing is one critical factor that has impeded Ghana\u2019s efforts at reducing the widening housing deficit.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Atta Akyea also believes the high cost of housing units has made it unattractive for real estate developers to build more housing units over fear of low occupancy levels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the income levels are low by virtue of the economic situation, then there should be a Housing Fund without\u00a0which people who are interested in building housing units will not be motivated to build houses that people will not occupy ,\u201dhe said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Atta Akyea further explained that the Housing Fund should help restructure the current mortgage system that makes it difficult for low end income earners to meet their monthly obligations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is critical is how to cushion the end user from a mortgage arrangement that will not dent his pocket. Mortgages are usually a factor of one\u2019s income; somebody cannot afford an eight bedroom house while another can afford a single bedroom house.
