{"id":280178,"date":"2016-12-27T14:07:08","date_gmt":"2016-12-27T14:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=280178"},"modified":"2016-12-27T14:07:08","modified_gmt":"2016-12-27T14:07:08","slug":"referendum-on-extra-region-scheduled-for-2018-nana-addo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/12\/referendum-on-extra-region-scheduled-for-2018-nana-addo\/","title":{"rendered":"Referendum on &#8216;extra region&#8217; scheduled for 2018 &#8211; Nana Addo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo has underscored his government&#8217;s commitment to fulfilling campaign\u00a0promises made to the Western Region including the splitting of the region and the relocation of the headquarters of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation\u00a0(GNPC).<\/p>\n<p>On the creation of an eleventh region out of the Western Region which may be called the Western-North Region, Nana Akufo-Addo said he expected the constitutionally\u00a0mandated referendum on the issue to happen in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI committed myself and my government to the creation of a new region out of this vast region which, for the time being, we are calling the Western-North. That commitment is high on the list of priorities of our government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By the time of the next district assembly elections in 2018, all the constitutional and legal procedures would have taken place and the referendum that the constitution calls for is going to take place together with that exercise,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/407a37a3-48c4-4f09-ae2a-378658f48383.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-280183\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/407a37a3-48c4-4f09-ae2a-378658f48383.jpg\" alt=\"407a37a3-48c4-4f09-ae2a-378658f48383\" width=\"600\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The President-elect was speaking at the Western Regional house of Chiefs in Sekondi during his thank-you tour of the region to thank the chiefs and people\u00a0for their support and prayers in the just ended polls that resulted in his comprehensive election victory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/0b059897-17a2-41af-8b81-d62cb7eb711b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-280184\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/0b059897-17a2-41af-8b81-d62cb7eb711b.jpg\" alt=\"0b059897-17a2-41af-8b81-d62cb7eb711b\" width=\"600\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nana Akufo-Addo also assured that the pledge to relocate GNPC to the Western Region was not an empty promise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe commitments that we have made are commitments that are going to be fulfilled. They were not platform or campaign talk.
