{"id":278665,"date":"2016-12-22T06:00:47","date_gmt":"2016-12-22T06:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=278665"},"modified":"2016-12-22T06:00:47","modified_gmt":"2016-12-22T06:00:47","slug":"fethullah-gulen-condemns-assassination-of-russian-ambassador-to-turkey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/12\/fethullah-gulen-condemns-assassination-of-russian-ambassador-to-turkey\/","title":{"rendered":"Fethullah Gulen condemns assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fethullah G\u00fclen, a renowned Turkish Islamic scholar, preacher and social advocate, has condemned the assassination of Russia\u2019s Ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, in Ankara.<\/p>\n<p>The gunman \u2013 an off-duty policeman \u2013 opened fire at an art gallery in Ankara as Andrei Karlov was making a speech, then stood triumphantly over his body shouting \u201crevenge for Syria and Aleppo\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Fethullah G\u00fclen, who was once accused by the Turkish President of being behind a botched coup few months ago, said the killing of the Russian Ambassador which is an act of terrorism cannot be justified.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_278668\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-278668\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-278668\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Murder.jpg\" alt=\"Andrey Karlov. the Russian ambassador to Turkey, left, was shot dead in Turkish capital Ankara.\" width=\"480\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-278668\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Andrey Karlov. the Russian ambassador to Turkey, left, was shot dead in Turkish capital Ankara.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He said \u201cI am shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the tragic assassination of Russia\u2019s Ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, who was speaking at an art gallery in Ankara. I condemn in the strongest terms this heinous act of terror.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo terrorist act can be justified, regardless of its perpetrators and their stated purposes. It is the expectation of the Turkish people and the world that the government investigate the circumstances of this incident, identify those who aided the perpetrator and take the necessary precautions so that such an attack cannot be staged in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI send my deepest condolences to Ambassador Karlov\u2019s family and to the Russian people for this tragic loss. I ask God the Most Compassionate to dry the roots of terrorism and lead the world to days of peace and tranquility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Turkish and international experts repeatedly have pointed out the deterioration of security and counter-terrorism efforts due to the Turkish government\u2019s assigning hundreds of counter-terrorism police officers to unrelated posts, as well as the firing and imprisoning of many others since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Fethullah G\u00fclen added that, \u201cthis despicable act of shooting an ambassador, who represents an entire nation, only exacerbates the Syrian conflict that has already taken too many lives and driven too many from their homelands, like adding fuel to a fire. I urge the Turkish and Russian governments, as well as the rest of the international community, to continue to work towards a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Syria.
