The Civil Society Platform on Oil and Gas has rated the People’s National Convention (PNC) as the Party with the best policy proposals for maximising the country’s oil find.<\/p>\n

\u201cOverall, the PNC polled the highest total average score for the full complement of policies and programmes for the oil and gas sector. It is followed by the CPP. The NPP placed third and the NDC fourth\u201d.<\/p>\n

The rating which is based on a combination of technical analysis of the political party manifestos and a public poll\u00a0took into consideration some fundamental indicators.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe voting was conducted along three categories identified as key areas where we have the greatest challenge in the oil and gas sector. These are: Inadequate governance framework; Weak integration of the sector into the rest of the national economy; and poor spending of oil and gas revenues.\u201d<\/p>\n

The platform\u00a0blamed Ghana\u2019s inability to maximize the gains of its mineral and oil find on the \u201cweaknesses in our governance framework, poor integration of the mineral sector into the rest of the economy, and poor spending of revenues derived from mineral extraction.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is the view of the Civil Society Platform on Oil and Gas, that all of the policy proposals of the contesting political parties captured in its poll have their own individual strengths and weaknesses. However, when put together, the various proposals make a comprehensive package of policies that have the potential to help Ghana better manage its petroleum resources to reap greater benefits for its people.\u201d<\/p>\n
