Former Attorney General, Martin Amidu, has asked persons lobbying for him to be offered a position by the President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, to desist from doing so, saying the approach being used goes against his personal principles.

Mr. Amidu in a statement copied to Citifmonline.com said some persons have had discussions with him face-to-face, whereas others have called him on phone to inform him of their efforts to ensure he gets an appointment.

Mr. Amidu said the President-Elect must be allowed the freedom to exercise that power without undue pressure which in his view, amounts to some form of corruption; something he is strongly against.

Suggestions for Martin Amidu to be appointed as either an independent prosecutor or Attorney General heightened after the Electoral Commission declared Nana Addo as winner of the general elections last Friday.

Some have argued that Martin Amidu will be the best person to manage the office of the independent prosecutor since he is incorruptible and a man with integrity, who can manage the office.

But Mr. Amidu has warned persons pushing the agenda to stay off and allow the President to make his choices. He said such suggestions cannot be encouraged especially when they are being done on the blind side of the President- elect.

“It is not patriotic for seemingly decent citizens to go round offering appointments to persons they suspect of meriting them on the blind side of the President-elect even before he has had time to exercise his prerogative of forming his Government so that such opportunists may claim credit in case of coincidence with the President-elect’s independent decisions.”

“My one-man citizen vigilante crusade stems from my inherent sense of purpose in standing for equality and accountability, as those who went to school, college and who have worked with me in the public service can all attest to.I do not do these public spirited things in consideration for material reward in any form,” he added.
