{"id":275396,"date":"2016-12-07T18:46:28","date_gmt":"2016-12-07T18:46:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=275396"},"modified":"2016-12-07T18:46:28","modified_gmt":"2016-12-07T18:46:28","slug":"ghelections-start-of-polls-in-jaman-north-postponed-to-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/12\/ghelections-start-of-polls-in-jaman-north-postponed-to-thursday\/","title":{"rendered":"#GhElections: Start of polls in Jaman North postponed to Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There has been another U-turn in the Jaman North constituency as the Electoral Commission (EC) has announced voting has been\u00a0postponed in the constituency to tomorrow [Thursday].<\/p>\n<p>In a press conference addressed by the EC\u2019s Director of Electoral Services, Samuel Tettey, he admitted that &#8220;several efforts by our officers to move materials to the 92 polling centres in the constituency were unsuccessful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;79FTJ52VNDZSOAx5Du5WpL8as76Dl37C&#8221;]Mr. Tettey also noted that &#8220;the security teams on the field could not guarantee a safe environment for the polls to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, as a result of the security challenges, the Commission has decided to reschedule the elections in the Jaman North constituency to tomorrow, Thursday, December 8, 2016,\u201d the Commission concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Tettey reminded that voting in the constituency will start at 7am and end 5pm at all polling\u00a0centres in the constituency per usual.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Wednesday, representatives of the various political parties, the District Security Council (DISEC) and stakeholders in the area agreed to postpone the voting to Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>This followed a disagreement over the voter transfer list which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claimed was <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/12\/07\/tension-in-jaman-north-constituency-over-delayed-voting\/\"><strong>bloated by over 30 names<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>But the Commission quashed a decision by the political parties to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/12\/07\/ghelections-voting-postponed-to-tomorrow-in-jaman-north\/\"><strong>postpone<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0the elections because it said it was not consulted before the prior decision to postpone the polls.<\/p>\n<p>The latest turn of events appears to have vindicated the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who was for the postponement of the polls.<\/p>\n<p>He had explained to Citi News that they arrived at the decision because\u00a0\u201cJaman North is a difficult terrain,\u201d hence it will be difficult to dispatch electoral materials before close of polls today, Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There has been another U-turn in the Jaman North constituency as the Electoral Commission (EC) has announced voting has been\u00a0postponed in the constituency to tomorrow [Thursday].
